With the hot season, comes a plague that we have been trying to eliminate for years: mosquitoes. These annoying insects disturb our sleep and pleasant moments with their buzzing, but even worse with their bites. A mosquito bite is never pleasant. In allergic subjects, in addition to the classic redness, the situation worsens quickly, also causing very strong reactions.
What is a mosquito bite?
Unlike other insects, such as bees and wasps, that sting humans to protect themselves, the female mosquito stings humans to suck their blood in order to feed. When the mosquito inserts the sting in the skin, it spreads in the affected area its saliva, rich in a substance that serves to prevent blood clotting. To defend itself from the attack, the body releases a substance called histamine. It is this mechanism that causes the classic mosquito bite symptoms, such as:
- redness
- itching
- burning
- swelling
Aloe vera: the most effective natural remedy
Relieving the itching is one of the first things to do when you get bitten by mosquitoes. Aloe vera is an excellent natural remedy against itching, burning, swelling and redness. If applied locally, it helps fight the symptoms of bites. The gel of the Aloe barbadensis Miller plant helps to disinfect the injured part and to immediately soothe the itching. Thanks to its gelatinous consistency, it spreads easily and is not sticky. Being a natural remedy, it can be used whenever you feel the need to scratch.
Its healing action also prevents the formation of signs or scars that can appear when you scratch and irritate your skin.
It can be used by everyone, even by children, as it has no contraindications or side effects.
Aloe vera repellent to prevent mosquito bites
Planning ahead is a great strategy to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes, especially when spending time outdoors. For this purpose you can prepare an excellent mosquito repellent made with aloe vera and pure essential oils. Aloe vera has soothing, moisturizing, refreshing and healing properties, while oils, such as lemongrass, geranium, eucalyptus, lavender and tea tree oil, have a strong smell that is very pleasant to men but terribly irritating to insects, that in this way tend to move away spontaneously and not to sting.
The repellent should simply be sprayed onto dry skin at regular intervals throughout the affected area. For the creation of a good aloe vera repellent it is good to choose organic ingredients, possibly pure and concentrated.
